Mr. Grant Horsfield, Founder and Chairman of the naked Group Ltd (BVI), which comprises of naked Development Ltd (HK), an environmentally conscious leisure property development company and naked Retreats Ltd, a hotel management WOFE company operating in China.
Before coming to China in 2005, Mr. Horsfield worked both in England and South Africa with more then 10 years business ownership experience. In 1997, Mr. Horsfield began working for the JSE listed company Softline Limited. By 1998, he was the Regional Director for their networking division and benefited considerably from the Information Technology boom over the following 2 years. His success helped him launch e-Bites Limited, which he did in 2000. e-Bites was both a publishing company and a call-centre facilitations company based in Cape Town but operating nationally in South Africa. Mr. Horsfield grew this company to be leading market player before choosing to step away and do an MBA from University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business.
During this time he wrote his now published book titled “The Poverty Penalty – The Price of Being Poor” (http://www.amazon.com/Poverty-Penalty-Grant-Horsfield/dp/3838314727/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254741306&sr=8-1). A large portion of this book is dedicated to understanding the importance of incorporating local communities in any developments, especially in undeveloped and poor areas. Grant is putting his research into practice in China.
In China, Mr. Horsfield is the brainchild behind ‘naked Retreats’, a boutique hotel in Moganshan, which was launched in 2007. naked Retreats has grown rapidly in popularity and is now consider among the most premium destinations to escape Shanghai. Furthermore, Mr. Horsfield’s efforts in including the local communities created jobs and pride for the local community. For this project, he received an environmental award from the Huzhou Government in 2008.
naked Development is currently developing a wellness eco resort called ‘naked Stables’ which aims to become the first LEED platinum certified resort of over 100 rooms in the world. It strives to innovate and set a new standard of sustainable design, build and operations in the luxury resort industry.

Chris Trees

Manufacturing Engineer / Green Designer

Ecomobility: an innovative approach to transportation

Founder of MGT Engineering Ltd., a China based Design, Consultancy and Sourcing Company, providing media equipment, energy efficient lighting solutions and sustainable transport.
He is British, 50 years old, married, with 2 children.
His down to earth approach to the problems of climate change and dwindling fossil fuel resources is as simple as it is painfully obvious.
A manufacturing engineer, his experience in operations management, project analysis and technical sales in industries as diverse as metal finishing, storage and handling, and advertising, has given him a pragmatic insight into problem solving.
On coming to China as Vice Director Development with the subsidiary of a world leading advertising group, he witnessed at first hand the headlong rush towards a western-style automobile driven economic and social model. Chris soon left his well-paid job in the multi-national company, as his ideas to save energy and protect the environment were systematically disregarded in favour of “conventional” solutions. With both children grown up and with the full support of his wife Florence, he decided it was time to put into practice his ideas in a way that would best impact the problems facing the world, especially the developing world. From an early age the bicycle played an important role in his life as a practical and cost effective means of transport. This allows him to argue the case for human powered transport from the position of your ordinary man in the street, not some super-human pedalling machine that others could never hope to imitate.
